“Our sites are the relics of an important social and religious period in Scotland. They demonstrate a high level of craftsmanship and artistry and are evidence of the social order and wealth available to these communities in the 12th and 13th centuries.
Economically, these sites can make a valuable contribution to the developing tourist industry of the area.
Educationally, they are an important primary source for students coming to an understanding of the people who lived and worked here over a thousand years ago.
With the right investment, these valuable sites can be preserved for the future. Without this commitment, there is only decay, loss and regret.“

“We note the beautiful ornamental gravestones gathered together near the Eastern gable, but regret that better measures have not yet been taken for their preservation, for wear and weathering have already taken their toll of their original beauty. They were well worth preserving, for Celtic art and workmanship were beautiful significant..”
