MEDIEVAL KINTYRE PROJECT
Chairpersons report, Tuesday 2nd September 2025
KKCPA held it’s AGM on Friday 8th August at 3pm in Tayinloan Hall. The current committee remains as before. I attach our AGM minutes for your information.
KILLEAN: The dilapidated Heras fencing is still in place and there is rampant overgrowth of briars evident throughout the ‘fenced off area’.
KILCHENZIE FALLEN STONES: We are still waiting on our request for costings on the erection of the fallen stones from the local undertakers, and a report from Argyll & Bute Council regarding timescales for this matter. Val informed us that BEAR/ Trasnsport Scotland have included plans for a footpath at Kilchenzie at their recent meeting, and are aiming to include it next years budget.
CHARTS: I met with Muriel MacKaveney & Khara MacPhail at the Burnett building. They are very keen to help promote our Project and will highlight some of the stone artifacts from Killean which the Museum hold, in their monthly information blog produced by Khara. There are many parts of our project which overlap with CHARTS interest in the heritage of the area and the museum is often the first place of contact for people looking into their family histories.
PATRON VISIT: Krystyna is organising suitable dates for Dr Peter Burman to visit before too long. More details to follow.
MEDIEVAL KINTYRE WEBSITE: Val and I recently held a meeting with Cameron McLellan regarding some issues with the Medieval Kintyre website. The front page had disappeared, and some of the links were not working as they should – all coming together on one page, making it very difficult to navigate through the website. Minutes of meetings, latest news, blogs etc will all now have separate links. Cameron has also agreed that as more updates information becomes available it would be sensible if he administrated the website from now on. Any articles for inclusion on the website should be emailed to him in future. Both Val & I are writing some additional information on the formation of the Project for an additional Timeline link. Krystyna had directed us to the ‘Ui church’ website as already being authorised by HES and Cameron will investigate this to see if there are any further changes we need to make as online content is very important to our funders – they have standards we cannot ignore.
Currently Cameron hosts the website, and pays for the annual registering of the domain name. We have asked him to send an invoice for his work, but he declined, and wishes to provide services ‘in kind’; for which we are very grateful. It is however, not appropriate for him to cover the annual cost of hosting the domain name & website, a cost of £60. He agreed to submit an invoice annually for this.

Treasurers Report 02/09/2025
As at close of business on 29/08/2025 the groups available balance stood at £4,262.11 (Four thousand, two hundred sixty-two pounds eleven pence).
A receipt for £2,600 (Two thousand six hundred pounds) was issued to LOAF on 06/08/2025 in acknowledgment of funds transferred to bank from CCWF. This was split between Kilkivan and Kilchenzie sites for the design of the shelters to house the grave slabs.
The insurance quote from Zurich, previously circulated, was accepted, and we have agreed to keep the Medieval Kintyre Website going for another year with Cameron at Blue Dolphin IT. Blue Dolphin IT are generously only charging for the Domain and Hosting renewal and not for their time resulting in an annual cost of £60 (Sixty pounds). Both these invoices have been paid.
Please see attached excel spreadsheet for details of payments, receipts and current position.
Looking at the figures Krystyna sent through to us on the 21st of August, we have enough funds to cover this until the end of October. I know Marion and Valerie are busy looking for other pots of money to apply for.
The new savings account for KKCPA is finally open. This will now facilitate the accounting process by enabling the housing of project funds in the main bank account separate from KKCPA members donations and fees which will be paid direct into the new account.
Update from V Nimmo 02-09-25
Price received from Gordon Bennie, Argyll Signs.
To supply (no installation) a printed and laminated interpretation panel, artwork supplied by yourselves, would be £85 per board. I have plenty of stock of the aluminium composite material at the moment so turnaround would be very quick.
MMcD and I met with Cameron McLellan to discuss a change of layout for our website.
Still awaiting response from MACC with respect to our bid for funding for P Burman’s visit.
