Report on CHARTs meeting

An interesting and productive meeting with Kathleen O’Neill of CHARTS.

Action Points from Kathleen:-

  • Put us in touch with the Gaelic culture officer
  • Introduce Muriel MacKaveney, support worker for Khara MacPhail, to act as link between our groups.
  • Contact Rosemary Power, an academic and author, who has developed pilgrim trails.
  • Investigate the possibility of Post graduate students helping with the recording of the gravestones at the three sites.
  • Suggested that CHARTS could offer/manage training of apprentices in, for example, stonemasonry.

As of date and time of meeting, no contact from Kathleen.

DR suggested speaking with James Lafferty, who has contacts with local contractors, running training courses. Also, Inspiralba, have experience in supervising graduate placements.

MMcD Kathleen had also said that Campbeltown Museum could be used as a meeting place.

Action Plan

VN has applied to Kintyre Antiquarians & Natural History Society (KANHS) for funding for drone footage of 3 sites prior to big project going ahead.

KP had submitted mini-projects – MMcD applying to WKWFT for money to research the window arches at Killean.

JN volunteered to make photographic record of all gravestones at each site.
